Recreate MAC Cosmetics’ Glowing Skin, Strong Brows and Powdery Red Lip From Kate Sylvester at NZFW

On Monday night I had the privilege of capturing some behind-the-scenes magic at Kate Sylvester’s New Zealand Fashion Week show. The collection was inspired by a box Kate found one year ago filled with hundreds upon hundreds of love letters her father had penned to her mother in the 50s, and the makeup for the show was reminiscent of Kate’s mother on her wedding day.

As always, MAC Cosmetics Senior Artist Kiekie Stanners was at the helm, telling me: “We’re creating a classic “Kate” look – a really refined, perfectly groomed beauty. We’re focusing on glowing skin and a really strong eyebrow; mixing together the feminine with a military masculine from the 50s. In addition to that, some of the models will have a super diffused, powdery red lip stain, inspired by the tomato-red lipstick Kate’s mum wore on her wedding day.”

Here’s exactly how the MAC team achieved the look:

Goldlite Strobe Cream to illuminate and highlight skin.

Studio Waterweight foundation to veil the skin in lightweight luminous coverage.

Pro Full Coverage Palette to perfect the skin and give a flawless finish.

Pro Face Palette, mixing together ‘Starry Opal’ and ‘Matted Milk’ to highlight the skin.

Paint Pot in ‘Groundwork’ on a #217 blending brushed wrapped around the eye to create definition.

Shape & Shade Brow Tint to define the brows and build a strong structured shape.

For models wearing the natural lip:

Lip Scrubitious to exfoliate the lip surface followed by Lip Conditioner to tock in moisture.

For models wearing the red lip:

Red lip pencil as a base all over.

Powder Kiss Lipstick in the shade ‘Mandarin O’ layered on top and pressed in with finger to create a soft velvet finish.

Retro Matte Lipstick in the shade ‘Dangerous’ applied on top in the centre of the lip, blending into ‘Mandarin O’ to create the perfect tomato-red shade.
