Twenty Questions with Kirsty Dawn

Welcome To Twenty Questions!

Every week I’ll be sharing a new twenty-something on the blog and their responses to twenty quick-fire, intimate questions about themselves. No one featured on Twenty Questions is a celebrity or public figure, and most of these people I don’t know very well, or at all. My hope is that by taking a peak into someone else’s soul you will realise that, despite our fundamental differences, we still have very similar insecurities, make similar mistakes and have fought similar battles to become the people we are today.

Kirsty Dawn, 23

What is your full name?

Kirsty Dawn Randell.

How old are you?

How old do you feel?

23 – but sometimes 16, sometimes 30.

Where were you born, and where do you live now?

I was born in the country, a small town on the west coast of the upper north island. When I was 6 my family and I moved to Whangarei (had the best childhood growing up on the coast with still today my favourite people), fast forward a few years, I’m now living in Auckland…I think it’s coming up my sixth year here.

What do you do for work?

Currently a graphic designer.

What do you do for fun?

Travel, read, spend time with my favourite humans, brunching, shopping, change my room around/ style it differently (I probably do this once every two months, and have done so my entire life).

Did you go to university? If so, what did you study? If not, why?

Yep, I studied Design majoring in Graphic Design at AUT (that was the reason I moved to Auckland). It was probably the most fun but also the most stressful three years of my life to date to be honest.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

New York Minute (2004 – Mary Kate & Ashley) & Peter Pan.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken that has paid off?

Probably when I decided to move out of home at 17, move to a different city and go to university.

Hardest moment of your twenties so far?

– Defining who I am as a person.

– Saving money.

Best moment of your twenties so far?

Falling in love again.

Who do you miss?

I miss my family – although I still give mum a phone call everyday haha.

What do you like the most about yourself?

– That I genuinely care about others.

– My ambition.

What do you like the least about yourself?

– That I don’t put myself first in some situations.

– That I put way too much pressure on myself.

If you had to get a tattoo, what would you get and where would you get it? If you already have tattoos, which is your favourite and why?

I’ve got a small tattoo just above my ankle which reads ‘Dawn’ in Croatian (I’m quarter Croatian). I may have just turned 18 when I got this, but don’t regret it at all.

How would your friends describe you?

One of my friends said, “Kind, incredibly driven, down to earth, extremely talented, gorgeous, fun, the best taste in everything, knows what she wants.”

How would your parents describe you?

Strong, admiral, caring young woman.

When was the last time you cried?

Last Sunday when I got back from my holiday in Hawaii.

What are you afraid of?

Being hurt by someone.

If you could start your twenties again, what would you do differently?

Absolutely nothing.
