Twenty Questions with Rose Ackland
Welcome to Twenty Questions!
Every week I’ll be sharing a new twenty-something on the blog and their responses to twenty quick-fire, intimate questions about themselves.
No one featured on Twenty Questions is a celebrity or public figure, and most of these people I don’t know very well, or at all.
My hope is that by taking a peak into someone else’s soul you will realise that, despite our fundamental differences, we still have very similar insecurities, make similar mistakes and have fought similar battles to become the people we are today.
What is your full name?
My name is Rose Faith Ackland. People sometimes call me Rosie.
How old are you?
I am 22-years-old.
How old do you feel?
I feel closer to 20.
Where were you born, and where do you live now?
I was born at home in my parent’s old house in Stanley Bay, Auckland, and I know live in Te Puna, Tauranga.
What do you do for work?
I work for myself, designing and making clothes for my label Beach Knickers. I also nanny and model to make some extra money.
What do you do for fun?
For fun I like to go op-shopping! I love to go to the beach, watch movies and spend time with my friends and family.
Did you go to university? If so, what did you study? If not, why?
Yes! I studied Fashion Design at AUT.
What is your favourite movie of all time?
I have so many favourite movies! But I would have to say Uptown Girls is my most-loved and most-watched film.
What is the biggest risk you have ever taken that has paid off?
Working for myself and starting a business. It is too soon to say if it has paid off but I am enjoying it for now.
Hardest moment of your twenties so far?
My third year of Uni was pretty testing – I had just been through a break up and my Fashion Design course really pushes it’s students to self-reflect and figure things out about yourself so that ultimately you are able to design and create work knowing who you truly are.
Best moment of your twenties so far?
Going to Paris with my boyfriend was pretty special!
Who do you miss?
I miss my friends and boyfriend who live in Auckland.
What do you like the most about yourself?
I like that I make an effort when I get dressed and that I choose to wear clothes that make me feel good.
What do you like the least about yourself?
I don’t like that I can be shy and introverted, and that I sometimes struggle when I’m with groups of people.
If you had to get a tattoo, what would you get and where would you get it? If you already have tattoos, which is your favourite and why?
If I had to get a tattoo it would be a small red love heart on my bottom, almost so small that it looked like a birth mark – just like Rachel’s tattoo on Friends!
How would your friends describe you?
I asked one of my friends to answer this because I didn’t want to presume anything! She said, “thoughtful, funny, independent, and compassionate”.
How would your parents describe you?
Considering all of the things my family to say me, I think they would describe me as a night owl, clever, and probably awkward.
When was the last time you cried?
The other day when I was watching a video on Facebook about a lady who was donating the organs of her son who had recently passed away to people in need. That made me tear up a little.
What are you afraid of?
I’m afraid of bad things happening to my loved ones, and car accidents.
If you could start your twenties again, what would you do differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently. All of the bad experiences that brought me heartache have been good for me in some way.
