Twenty Questions with Ruby Hamilton

Welcome to Twenty Questions!

Every week I’ll be sharing a new twenty-something on the blog and their responses to twenty quick-fire, intimate questions about themselves.

No one featured on Twenty Questions is a celebrity or public figure, and most of these people I don’t know very well, or at all.

My hope is that by taking a peak into someone else’s soul you will realise that, despite our fundamental differences, we still have very similar insecurities, make similar mistakes and have fought similar battles to become the people we are today.

Ruby Hamilton, 20

What is your full name?

Ruby Jayne Hamilton.

How old are you?

I have just recently turned 20 years old!

How old do you feel?

This is tricky, some days I feel older than 20 but other days not so much.

Where were you born, and where do you live now?

I was born on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, but now I live in Auckland.

What do you do for work?

I work for Juliette Hogan and over the summer I was lucky enough to intern for Fashion Quarterly.

What do you do for fun?

I love to read, love going home to Tauranga and the beach, as well as cooking and eating.

Did you go to university? If so, what did you study? If not, why?

I am currently in my final year of a Bachelor of Visual Arts – majoring in Photography.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

It’s impossible to pick just one, but ‘Into the Wild’ is probably one of my all time favourites and my most-watched.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken that has paid off?

I left a degree and a city that I really wasn’t happy in and packed up and moved to Auckland to start over. It was terrifying but it has definitely paid off, I am glad that I was brave enough to trust my heart.

Hardest moment of your twenties so far?

Well my twenties have only just started – but I am picking that this year is going to be a toughie, trying to figure out where to go and what to do after graduating.

Best moment of your twenties so far?

Seeing my family. And also just the sheer amount of cake I’ve consumed since turning 20…..Thanks to Elora Norman!

Who do you miss?

My parents and all of my siblings, living away from them is hard, as well as pals who are spread out all over the globe.

What do you like the most about yourself?

I’m very driven – usually if I want something in life I want stop until I get it. And I care a lot for the people in my life.

What do you like the least about yourself?

My anxiety, but I’m working on that.

If you had to get a tattoo, what would you get and where would you get it? If you already have tattoos, which is your favourite and why?

I don’t have any yet but my younger sister and I have always talked about getting a little diver done for our Dad, or a little seashell.

How would your friends describe you?

Passionate and dynamic.

How would your parents describe you?

Stubborn but adorable (thanks dad).

When was the last time you cried?

Probably sometime last week.

What are you afraid of?

Not knowing what’s going to happen next.

If you could start your twenties again, what would you do differently?

As a newcomer to The Twenties Club, I am hoping that this year will be one of growth. I hope to change the way I think, to have more faith in myself and have more confidence in the work that I make.
