What Do Beauty Insiders Put On Their Face?

21.08.19

What do beauty insiders put on their face? Like what do they actually put on their face. Not what they’re trying to sell us or being paid to write about, I mean what’s the best mascara they’ve ever used, do they exfoliate, what is sitting in their shower right this second, and do they really love sheet masks or are they just doing it for the ‘gram?

I need to know these things, so I asked four of my most-trusted, knowledgeable and perfectly-groomed beauty insiders. Here’s what they said:

Sarah Jackson, Co-Founder INÈS Store

Serum or oil?

Serum for sure. My go-to’s are: Retinol Reform by Shani Darden, NIOD Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Acid and NIOD’s Copper Amino Isolate Serum (they work well together). And I’m currently trialling Marie Veronique’s C+E+ Ferulic Serum and loving it.

The one makeup product you wear every single day?

On a daily basis I’m very minimal (lazy) with make-up, and go makeup-free quite frequently. That said, I’ll always brush my brows in place with BrowFoods Gel Fix in Dark Blonde or Clear, and If I’m out-and-about it’s a tinted moisturiser. My favourites are Just Skin by Chantecaille with a little bit of Laura Mercier Illuminated Tinted Moisturiser mixed in for glow.

The one makeup product you never wear?

A bold lip. It just doesn’t suit me.

Do you exfoliate? How often and with what?

Yes, definitely. I can have sensitive skin, so I try not over do it and stick to two or three times a week. My favourite form of exfoliation is lactic acid because it’s gentle and gives me a nice glow. Product-wise, I alternate between Codage Peeling Lotion (I dilute the cotton pad with water first as this can pack a punch), Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator Mask, and the 10% Cane + Austin Peel Pads. I often use these before an event/pre make up, as they smooth and prime the skin.

What beauty products are in your shower right now?

Leonor Greyl Bain Volumateur aux Algues Shampoo

Christophe Robin Cleansing Mask with Lemon

Codage Exfoliating Balm

Cane + Austin Glycolic cleanser

Organic bar soap

Favourite makeup remover?

Bioderma Sensibio H20 micellar water, without a doubt.

Sheet masks – love them or hate them?

Love them if they are done right – I wouldn’t use a gimmicky $3.00 sheet mask. Joanna Vargas is a US-based aesthetician and her sheet masks are functional and packed with all the right ingredients.

The best concealer you’ve ever used?

My favourite is RMS Un-Cover Up.

The best mascara you’ve ever used?

I tend to always have a Lancôme mascara on rotate -right now it’s their Hypnose Mascara. I’ve been using their mascaras since before I can remember and I’ve never really tried anything else!

All-time favourite lip product?

Nuxe Reve de Miel and Cosmedix Rescue Balm are both saving my lips from winter right now.

Clara Jane,  Digital Editor at Denizen

Serum or oil?

Both! I just finished a bottle of 111Skin Vitamin C Brightening Booster which helped immensely with my uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. I also love the F.Miller Face Oil from Fourth Street Home when my skin needs some extra hydration – plus, it smells incredible.

The one makeup product you wear every single day?

Mecca’s In A Good Light Face Tint.

The one makeup product you never wear?

Primer.

Do you exfoliate? How often and with what?

Yes! I switch between Goldfaden MD’s Doctor’s Scrub (quite gritty) and Sukin’s Detoxifying Facial Scrub which is made using micro jojoba beads and ground bamboo – it’s a gentle polish that leaves the skin feeling delightful (and it’s super affordable). I also love the Codage Scrubbing Cream which is like a delicious sandy milk.

What beauty products are in your shower right now?

Aesop Body Cleanser and Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner. I wash my face and exfoliate at the basin because my showers are far too hot for my face.

Favourite makeup remover?

Bioderma Sensibio H20 micellar water.

Sheet masks – love them or hate them?

Not a huge fan, however I do love hydrating and clay masks. I often multi-mask and switch between the Glam Glow Powermud Mask (great for specific areas like nose and chin) and the Probiotic Masque by Aliangé (calms hormonal acne, hooray!).

The best concealer you’ve ever used?

It would have to be a tie between RMS Un-Cover Up (when I’m in a good relationship with my skin), NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (a small amount under the eyes really brightens the face), NARS Soft Matte concealer (great for blemishes) and the bareMinerals Complete Coverage Serum Concealer (a great all-rounder, it hydrates while covering – magic).

The best mascara you’ve ever used?

I’ve tried so many but because my eyelashes are long and curly, most of them end up on my eyelids. So I’ll either use the Great Lash Clear Mascara from Maybelline or whatever mini I’ve found at Mecca – mini’s are the best for trying out new products.

All-time favourite lip product?

Any lip balm.

Rebecca Wadey, Communications Manager for Bobbi Brown and Jo Malone London

Serum or oil?

I love ANR for everything. It’s beautiful for my skin but I also use it to pat onto my children’s faces on those mortifying days they come home from a day at the beach a little pink in the face. Trudi Brewer taught me that trick and it’s amazing. But I’m also obsessed with face oils. The Bobbi Brown Face Oil and La Mer’s The Renewal Oil being two of my absolute favourites. I also recently bought Vintner’s Daughter, so I’m looking forward to seeing if my skin likes that!

The one makeup product you wear every single day?

Brow pencil! More specifically, the Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil. I’m confident enough in my skin to go without wearing makeup (and I’m not really a fan of mascara –  don’t tell anyone), but I had chemo years ago and my poor brows have never been the same.

The one makeup product you never wear?

Contouring products or anything related to them.

Do you exfoliate? How often and with what?

I invented something a little special which is the Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains mixed with the Clinique Fresh Pressed Renewing Powder Cleanser with Vitamin C. It’s amazing. I’m very proud of myself.

What beauty products are in your shower right now?

Coconut oil for the kids nits. Dr Bronner’s Liquid Soap with a splash of Sans [Ceuticals] Activator 7 Body Oil mixed in. Not much in the shower really; I don’t wash my hair and embarrassingly I always forget to wash the kids’.

Favourite makeup remover?

Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil. Back to my obsession with oils…

Sheet masks – love them or hate them?

I love the Estee Lauder ANR Recovery Powerfoil Mask, both for my skin (I’ve even convinced my husband to do one after a long flight) but also for the enforced time-out it gives. There’s something quite special about taking that time away from life!

The best concealer you’ve ever used?

Is it sacrilege to say I’m not a concealer person?! I love to wear a really dewy foundation or tinted moisturiser (like Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation or Extra Tinted Moisturising Balm) and then use a stick foundation to add a little extra coverage where I need it.

The best mascara you’ve ever used?

Smokey Eye Mascara by Bobbi Brown and Extended Play Lash by M.A.C.

All-time favourite lip product?

Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint. I’m embarrassingly lazy when it comes to most applications so this is my perfect easy lip product.

Zoë Philpott, Co-Founder of INÈS Store

Serum or oil?

Serum! For anti-ageing it’s Retinol Reform by Shani Darden, and for Vitamin C I love SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic and Joanna Vargas Rescue Serum. I love alternating between these two serums – Vitamin C helps with everything; reducing inflammation, brightening pigmentation, protecting skin from pollution as well as helping with healthy collagen production. It’s an essential daily ingredient for me!

The one makeup product you wear every single day?

LashFood Ultra Fine Brow Pencil.

The one makeup product you never wear?

Mascara.

Do you exfoliate? How often and with what?

Absolutely! I prefer chemical exfoliants to physical as I believe them to be more effective and gentle on the skin. I usually exfoliate two or three nights a week with Cane + Austin’s 20% Miracle Pads which are doused in pure glycolic acid – an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) which is a gold standard skincare ingredient with so many benefits.

What beauty products are in your shower right now?

Leonor Greyl Shampoo Crème Moelle De Bambou

Leonor Greyl Crème Régénératrice Conditioner

Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Regenerating Masque

Christophe Robin Purifying Sea Salt Scrub

CODAGE Exfoliating Balm (the best exfoliating body balm I’ve ever tired – obessed!)

Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant

Leonor Greyl Huile De Magnolia

Favourite makeup remover?

Bioderma Sensibio H20 micellar water.

Sheet masks – love them or hate them?

Love them – Joanna Vargas does the best.

The best concealer you’ve ever used?

IT Cosmetics ByeBye Undereye.

The best mascara you’ve ever used?

I can’t remember the last time I wore mascara!

All-time favourite lip product?

Dior Lip Glow.
